So, how do you spend a Saturday in March when it is too much snow to ride your bike and too chilly to go outside? You can either sit in the sofa doing nothing at all or perhaps improving your bike before the season starts.
Since my newly built up full suspension bike did not have a proper chainstay protector I chose to make one myself. The ones you can get from more or less any bike shop made out of neoprene that is secured in place by Velcro seem a bit sloppy. Therefore I wanted to make one that has tight fit and resembles an OEM product. So, what do you need to make such a chainstay protector? First of all you need a bike with a rear triangle where it is possible to separate the chainstay and seatstay, then you need some heat-shrink tubing and finally a heat gun.
